Week 3 START/SIT: LISTEN NOW

Patrick Mahomes is looking to take his game to another level, which is flat out scary for opposing defenses. Despite not having his top Wide Out in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce along with Sammy Watkins being held in check, Mahomes still torched the Raiders defense last week for 443 yards and 3 TDs. As good as Mahomes has been, Lamar Jackson has been even more impressive when you consider the progress he's made from last year. It was 5 TD passes in Week 1 and 120 rushing yards to go along with 250 passing yards and 2 TD tosses in Week 2. Tom Brady has climbed back into the Top 5 as an elite fantasy Quarterback. With Antonio Brown, Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, Phillip Dorsett, James White and Rex Burkhead, Tommy Guns is fully equipped with weapons to dissect any defense. Dak Prescott has been equally impressive, using great ball distribution all over the field to keep defenses on their heels, as evidenced by him completing passes to 7 different Cowboys last week and throwing TD passes to 5 different Cowboys in the first two games. Russell Wilson is just starting to warm up, as he's getting acquainted with some new toys. Aside from getting further in sync with trusted target Tyler Lockett, Wilson is quickly developing chemistry with rookie Wide Out D.K.Metcalf and second year Tight End Will Dissly, who both caught TD passes last week in Pittsburgh. Wide Receiver David Moore is expected back soon and Wilson is still a major threat to pick up precious yards on the ground. Matt Ryan can do a better job protecting the football but he's been able to stack strong numbers, despite 5 INTs in the first two weeks. With Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Mohammed Sanu, Austin Hooper and DeVonta Freeman on offense, Ryan has proven that he can deliver the goods, especially in the right match up. Even though he got banged up last week in Atlanta, it was good to see Carson Wentz- the football player back on the field, as he played fearless with no hesitation. His arm talent and play making ability are undeniable but they lead to some bad decision making at times.  His value may dip a little over the next few weeks, while his top two Receivers, Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson are out with injuries but when they return, Wentz is definitely a must start. Aaron Rodgers doesn't have the big numbers to support his #8 rank right now but he appears to be throwing the football with great accuracy again and when he's doing that, he's as dangerous as any Quarterback in the league. Deshaun Watson is looking good early on and has a few additional options in the passing game that could boost his overall stock this season. Aside from All Pro DeAndre Hopkins and speedster Will Fuller, new comers Kenny Stills and Duke Johnson Jr. are in position to make weekly contributions. Second year slot Receiver Keke Coutee just returned from a Preseason injury and can make plays as well. The big thing for Watson will be staying healthy, as the offensive line still has protection issues. In terms of fantasy football, Andy Dalton is in position to be a strong weekly play. At the moment, Cincinnati is struggling to run the football and their defense has a tendency to give up a lot of big plays, so Dalton has to pass a lot. With Wide Receivers Tyler Boyd and John Ross leading the way, Dalton has been up over 300 yards in back to back weeks and should have things open up a little more once his top target in A.J. Green is back on the field in a few weeks. Jared Goff is always in position to succeed because of the pieces around him. Head Coach Sean McVay is one of the leagues top play callers, the offensive line is very good and his skill position players as a collective unit, are one of the best in the NFL. The only area that Goff has to improve on is consistency. He plays very well at home but not so much on the road. I really like what the Lions have done on offense to help Matthew Stafford become more efficient and effective. Rookie Tight End T.J. Hockensen and veteran slot specialist Danny Amendola, are a perfect complement to Wide Receivers Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones. The Lions offense has become more balanced but Stafford now has more options to work with when it's time to air it out. Phillip Rivers continues to be a steady performer for the most part. The Wide Receiver duo of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams on the outside along with Austin Ekeler coming out of the backfield is enough for him to make it work but without elite Running Back Melvin Gordon and Tight End Hunter Henry, his value is a bit risky on the stock market. Rookie Kyler Murray has done more than hold his own thru the first 2 weeks of the season and has earned a starting spot on your team if you need a Quarterback. Running Back David Johnson, along with Wide Receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk provide Murray with a good core of play makers to rely on weekly. His style is very unconventional and his supporting cast is relatively unknown but Josh Allen has found ways to make it work. I still think he's earning the complete trust of owners but if the matchup is right, his production has been pretty consistent. Turnovers and decision making will ultimately determine if Baker Mayfield is a Top 10 or Top 20 Fantasy Quarterback this year. With Nick Chubb and Odell Beckham Jr. leading a good cast of play makers that currently includes Jarvis Landry and David Njoku, along with Antonio Callaway and potentially Kareem Hunt in the near future, Mayfield has more than enough options to be a weekly starter in most match ups. I still think it's going to be some ups and downs with Jimmy Garrapollo, as he continues to gain confidence in his knee after tearing his ACL last year. At this point, you still want to be cautious of match ups, as his biggest asset should be utilizing his elite Tight End and strong group of Running Backs to compliment Wide Receivers that aren't going to dominate every game. With the running game not fully in motion, Joe Flacco has looked pretty good in his first two starts with Denver. Another good Wide Receiver would help but Emmanuel Sanders and Courtland Sutton provide Flacco with two good targets to lean on for his primary options. I don't know how long he can continue at this pace or how sustainable his production can be but heading into Week 3, Case Keenum has exceeded expectations with the Redskins. It wouldn't be wise to play him this week against the Bears defense but in softer match ups, sheer volume may help him be a steady producer. Cam Newton has rubbed owners the wrong way to begin the season. Heading into Week 3, he hasn't thrown or ran for a touchdown this year and is trying to work through an ankle injury that he suffered in the Preseason and re-aggravated last week. He did throw for 333 yards against Tampa Bay but not seeing him go Super Man style from the goal line with the game on the line was a surprise. The struggles of Kirk Cousins are for real and owners need to take caution early on. I truly believe he can fix things and turn it around based on the weapons he has at his disposal but when it comes to his offensive line protecting him, that may be a different story. We're going to revisit this conversation next week, after seeing how he fares at home against a Raiders defense that most consider to be just above average at best. I understand that Antonio Brown was a problem and why he had to go but it really hurt Derek Carr, leaving him in a similar situation that he struggled with last year and that's a lack of explosive weapons in the passing game. Tyrell Williams is a pretty good Wide Receiver and Tight End Darren Waller is emerging but if one of them gets hurt or the defense decides to take one of them out of the game, Carr doesn't have much to work with. Jameis Winston continues to be a wild card who you can't trust and he'll continue to be a roll of the dice until he can cut out turnovers and get Mike Evans and O.J. Howard the ball. With Marcus Mariota, it's the same thing. Maybe not the turnover issue but very inconsistent and hard to trust, since he can't connect with his Wide Receivers consistently. For Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Menshew, there is no expectation and owners should keep tabs on both to see how good or bad they play weekly in relation to what effect it has on your fantasy players from those teams. As for the Mitchell Tribusky, it's been all bad and a breakout game needs to happen quick before his confidence is shot. To be somewhat fair, the Bears skill position players are far from elite and the offensive line isn't great either.
