CLOSELY KNIT

The 4th tier of Fantasy Football Quarterbacks are a mixture of players who like to get it done with their arms, as well as their feet. Regardless of your style of choice, NFL Fantasy Football Expert Analyst Lance Goodman takes a look at how each Quarterback is expected to perform this year.

16. CAM NEWTON, CAR

After a brilliant break through 2015 campaign, Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton resembled more of what we had become accustomed to in the past, which was mostly good but bad often enough. Good enough for owners to trust in their starting line-up because of his dual threat ability but inconsistent in the passing game, which caused him to have some poor outings. Accuracy throwing the football continues to be his achilles heel and until that issue is resolved, he'll struggle to reach his full potential like he did 2 years ago when he was the top Quarterback in Fantasy Football.

17. PHILLIP RIVERS, LAC

Chargers Quarterback Phillip Rivers will be hitting the airwaves once again this season and for the most part it should serve fantasy owners well. The cast of names in San Diego has changed but there's still some young talent when everyone is healthy. Wide Receivers Keenan Allen, Tyrell Williams, Travis Benjamin and Dontrel Inman are all capable of making major contributions. 2nd year Tight End Hunter Henry is already one of the better players at his position in the AFC. Rivers is a great option for weaker defenses but tends to struggle against division rivals and tougher defenses, which has led to some high interception and turnover totals.

18. TYROD TAYLOR, BUF

Buffalo Quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been primarily limited in how effective he can potentially be due to the injuries and ineffectiveness Buffalo has had at the Wide Receiver position. Wide Receiver Sammy Watkins has big time potential but can't stay on the field long enough to reach it and the other Buffalo Receivers are average at best. Taylor has the ability to pick up yards on the ground and also get in the end zone, which allowed him to finish ranked 8th overall for Fantasy Quarterbacks in 2016 but if the Bills don't get him better weapons on the outside, he'll never reach his ceiling of potential.

19. CARSON PALMER, ARI
20. ALEX SMITH, KC

In Arizona, Quarterback Carson Palmer is at the end of his career and is looking to regain his form from 2015 when he was one of the hottest Quarterbacks in the League. He'd like to forget about the ups and down from last season that left owners frustrated and impatient. The Cards still have veteran Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald along with speedsters Jon Brown and J.J. Nelson on the outside but the offense now revolves around a power running game, which means a more conservative approach that could have a direct effect on Palmer posting big fantasy numbers.

With veteran players getting older and Kansas City right on the cusp of an AFC Championship game, it appears and I repeat,  it appears that the Chiefs may be finally taking their toddler shoes off to push the ball downfield. To that end, QB Alex Smith has become a very relaible start, especially in favorable match ups. If he can find a way to help explosive Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill and Tight End Travis Kelce reach their maximum potential, Smith could easily become a Top 10 fantasy QB weekly.
